Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on Celtic striker Daizen Maeda as a possible addition to their squad ahead of the January transfer window. According to Team Talk, the London club has shown strong interest in the versatile Japanese striker valued at £25 million.

Maeda’s versatility is one of the main reasons why Tottenham have turned their attention to him. While he is not a pure center forward, he can fill that role effectively, making him an attractive candidate for Ange Postecoglou’s team.

In a period where Spurs are looking for options to strengthen their attacking line and provide competition for players like Richarlison, Maeda’s arrival could fit Tottenham’s style of play. Although his Celtic numbers total 19 goals and 13 assists in 79 games, it is his off-the-ball attributes that make him stand out as an interesting option.

The high-pressing, high-tempo style of play developed by Postecoglou at Celtic requires players with energy and Maeda seems to fit that description. The £25m price tag appears to be a reasonable value for Celtic, who already came close to selling another of their players in the summer.

Postecoglou is familiar with Maeda, having worked with him during his time at Celtic, which could make his adaptation to Tottenham easier. Although it remains to be seen whether Tottenham is willing to shell out the required sum for the Japanese striker, it is clear that the club needs to strengthen that position.

Over the summer, several names were mentioned as possible replacements for Harry Kane, who joined Bayern Munich. However, most options have vanished, and Tottenham are looking for a solution to fill that void.

The option of Porto’s Mehdi Taremi was mooted but the hefty price tag of £80m could be a barrier. Additionally, his lack of recent competitive activity could create uncertainties. Gent’s Gift Orban was also mentioned, but again, the price was an obstacle.

In this context, Daizen Maeda emerges as an attractive and well-known option for coach Postecoglou. If Tottenham can sort out the financial details and Maeda adapts to the Premier League, he could be a valuable addition to the team as they seek success this season. Spurs fans will be keeping an eye on any developments in this potential signing.
