Ghana and the USA will face each other for the first time on American soil in a friendly match at GEODIS Park in Nashville on Tuesday night.
During the weekend, the US team conceded three goals without reply, resulting in a 3-1 loss to Germany, while the Black Stars suffered a 2-0 defeat against Mexico.
On Saturday, Gio Reyna made his first appearance for the US team since the well-known dispute between Berhalter and his family. Matt Turner made his 10th appearance of the year, leading the team in appearances for 2023. Folarin Balogun started for the fifth time since officially committing to the national team, and Tim Ream became the fourth player in the modern era of the program (1990-present) to earn a cap at the age of 36, joining Fernando Clavijo, Thomas Dooley, and Preki.
Cameron Carter-Vickers made his first appearance for the senior team since the World Cup, replacing Chris Richards in the second half on Saturday. Lennard Maloney is the only player selected for this international window who has not yet earned an international cap.
Christian Pulisic scored his 27th goal for the US team in their previous match, bringing him three goals away from Brian McBride’s fifth-place record with the men’s team. Additionally, Pulisic now has 41 goal contributions on the international stage, ranking fifth in US history behind Eric Wynalda (51), Jozy Altidore (56), Clint Dempsey (76), and Landon Donovan (115).
Five Ghana players who started in the match against Liberia (a 3-1 victory) remained in the starting lineup on Saturday, including Nicholas Opoku, Joseph Aidoo, Kingsley Schindler, Mohammed Kudus, and Antoine Semenyo.
Stephan Ambrosius made his first career start with the Black Stars, having made his first appearance in their previous match. Thomas Partey featured for the first time with the national team since June and is now four appearances away from reaching 50 caps. Jordan Ayew came on as a substitute against Mexico, earning his 93rd cap with the senior side and potentially surpassing Sulley Muntari and Wilberforce Mfum for seventh place in all-time goals with the national team.
