OFFICIAL: The Three Teams Promoted to the Premier League for 2026/27
The EFL Championship’s promotion picture is now complete. Hull City is the final club promoted to the Premier League, joining Coventry City and Ipswich Town as the three sides heading to the top flight for the 2026/27 campaign.
1. Coventry City — Champions
Coventry City were confirmed as promoted on April 17 after a 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers put them 10 points clear at the top of the Championship table. Managed by Frank Lampard, Coventry secured the title, sealing their return to the Premier League for the first time in a quarter of a century. It is one of the most remarkable stories of the season — a club back where many felt they always belonged.
2. Ipswich Town — Runners-Up
Ipswich left it until the final day to secure the second automatic promotion spot, with a commanding 3-0 win over QPR at Portman Road confirming their return to the Premier League. Manager Kieran McKenna guided the Tractor Boys through a brilliant campaign, and their promotion marks another step in a truly impressive resurgence for the club.
3. Hull City — Playoff Winners
Hull City and Middlesbrough contested the EFL Championship playoff final at Wembley Stadium today, May 23, with the winner securing the final Premier League spot.
Hull were the first team to reach the final after beating Millwall 2-0 on aggregate in the semi-finals, with goals from Mohamed Belloumi and Joe Gelhardt in the second leg at The Den.
The playoff final itself was surrounded by extraordinary drama. Southampton was initially scheduled to face Hull City in the final, but were expelled from the playoffs by an Independent Disciplinary Commission following a spying controversy — the so-called “Spygate” scandal — and were replaced by Middlesbrough.
Hull City ultimately triumphed at Wembley, booking their place among England’s elite.
The 2026/27 Premier League Season
The 2026/27 Premier League will be the 35th season of the competition, with the season set to start on 22 August 2026 and end on 30 May 2027. The fixtures are scheduled to be released on 19 June 2026.
All three promoted clubs will be looking to make their mark. Coventry return after a 25-year absence, Ipswich continue their stunning recent rise, and Hull City will be aiming to show they belong at the top table of English football. What a season awaits!
