The first half saw the visitors taking control of the game, with more possession than their opponents. Evanilson was particularly causing problems for the opposing team, as he turned his defender and took a shot on goal, which was saved by David Raya. Bukayo Saka also had a chance, but his shot was saved by Diogo Costa. However, it was Leandro Trossard who scored the breakthrough goal for Arsenal, neatly finishing a pass from Martin Ødegaard.

In the second half, Arsenal’s dominance waned a bit, but they still managed to find the back of the net through Ødegaard, only for it to be disallowed due to a foul. Francisco Conceição and Jakub Kiwior had chances for Porto, but were denied by Raya and a brilliant block respectively. As the game approached full time, Mikel Arteta made a substitution, bringing on Gabriel Jesus to secure the victory.

Jesus immediately made an impact, forcing a save from Costa, but the score remained 1-0 at the end of regular time. Extra time saw limited goalmouth action, with Mehdi Taremi’s shot for Porto being the only notable chance. The second half of extra time was equally tense, with Saka’s effort blocked and Galeno’s strike deflected into Raya’s arms.

With the game ending in a draw on aggregate, it was time for penalties. Arsenal had a perfect penalty record this season, but Wendell’s shot was saved by Raya, sending the Emirates Stadium into celebration.

Saka then found the back of the net, extending Arsenal’s lead by two goals, while Marko Grujić managed to narrow the gap to 3-2. Declan Rice successfully converted, putting Arsenal in a position to win the match.

Galeno, fully aware of the pressure, stepped up to take the penalty. However, Raya once again made an incredible save, diving to his left like a cat, much to the delight of the home crowd. This victory in a penalty shootout marked Arsenal’s first at the Emirates in a competitive match, bringing redemption after their heartbreaking loss against Sporting in the UEFA Europa League last season.
