Gary Neville Slams Delay In Manchester City’s 115-Charge Investigation

Former Manchester United defender and football pundit Gary Neville has strongly criticised the lengthy delay surrounding the Premier League’s investigation into Manchester City’s alleged financial rule breaches, calling the situation “a disgrace” and “absolutely shocking.”

Manchester City were charged by the Premier League in February 2023 over 115 alleged breaches of financial regulations covering a period between 2009 and 2018. However, more than three years later, no final verdict has been announced, leading to growing frustration across the football world.

Speaking on the issue, Neville questioned why the case has taken so long while other clubs, including Everton and Nottingham Forest, have already faced punishments for Profit and Sustainability Rule breaches.

“It’s a disgrace that the investigation is taking so long. It’s absolutely shocking,” Neville said. “Meanwhile Everton and Nottingham Forest have been punished.”

Everton were handed points deductions during the 2024/25 campaign, while Nottingham Forest also faced sanctions after breaching financial limits set by the Premier League. The contrast in the speed of those decisions compared to Manchester City’s ongoing case has sparked debate among fans, pundits, and rival clubs.

Manchester City have consistently denied any wrongdoing and maintain they possess “irrefutable evidence” to clear their name. The club has also stated that they welcome the opportunity to present their case through an independent commission.

The outcome of the investigation could have major implications for English football, with potential punishments ranging from fines and points deductions to more severe sporting sanctions if the club is found guilty.

As the wait continues, pressure is mounting on the Premier League to provide clarity on one of the biggest legal and sporting cases in modern football history.
