Liam Rosenior has been sacked as head coach of Chelsea FC just three months after signing a six-and-a-half-year deal.
The 41-year-old, who took over from Enzo Maresca on January 6, leaves after overseeing 23 matches across all competitions, recording 10 wins, 10 losses, and three draws. A poor run of form proved decisive, with seven defeats in the last eight games—five of them in the Premier League.
Chelsea’s ownership group, led by Behdad Eghbali, made the call to part ways following internal discussions on Wednesday, concluding that a change was necessary.
The decision comes just days before the club’s FA Cup semi-final clash with Leeds United on Sunday.
The Blues have confirmed Calum McFarlane will take be in interim charge until the end of the season with support from existing backroom staff.

A statement from the club read: “Chelsea Football Club has today parted company with Head Coach Liam Rosenior. On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, we would like to place on record our gratitude to Liam and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club.
“Liam has always conducted himself with the highest integrity and professionalism following his appointment mid-way through the season.
“This has not been a decision the Club has taken lightly, however recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards with still so much more to play for this season. Everyone at Chelsea FC wishes Liam every success in the future.
“Calum McFarlane will take charge of the team as Interim Head Coach until the end of the season with support from existing Club backroom staff, as we strive to achieve European qualification and progress in the FA Cup.
“As the Club works to bring stability to the Head Coach position, we will undertake a process of self-reflection to make the right long-term appointment.”
BlueCo’s initial plan was to review Rosenior’s position at the end of the 2027/28 campaign but recent results changed everything.
Rosenior’s final match as Chelsea head coach came at the Amex Stadium on Tuesday evening, where the Blues were dismantled 3-0 by Brighton in the Premier League. It was Chelsea’s fifth straight league loss without scoring for the first time since 1912.
In an extraordinary post-match press conference, Rosenior placed the blame on his players, as well as taking some of it himself.
