Kyle Walker, the right-back for Manchester City and the England national team, has recently launched a football and education academy in his hometown of Sheffield. The 33-year-old expressed his desire to give back to the city where he grew up and kickstarted his professional football career with Sheffield United. There were even rumors last year that he might return to Bramall Lane.

Growing up in the Sharrow suburb of Sheffield, Walker understands the importance of his roots. He stated, “I wanted to give back, especially to this city and to children who may feel like their dreams are out of reach.”

The KW2 Academy, a collaborative effort between Walker and The Sheffield College, aims to provide opportunities for aspiring footballers between the ages of 16 and 19 who are not currently signed to a professional club. Walker’s intention is to offer these players a second chance in the beautiful game.

“You may be a late bloomer, your attitude may not be right, or you may not fit the mold,” Walker explained. The academy seeks to give these individuals a platform to showcase their talent and potentially pursue a career in professional football.

The KW2 Academy will offer training sessions three times a week, with the college’s Hillsborough Campus serving as the training facility. Walker has committed to being present at the campus as often as possible to inspire and motivate the participants.

Applications for the academy opened on March 11th and can be submitted through The Sheffield College. The academy presents a unique opportunity for young footballers to pursue their dreams and work towards a professional career, despite the slim chances of success.
