VAR official Lee Mason forgot to draw offside lines while checking Brentford’s equaliser against Arsenal on Saturday – which should’ve been ruled out.
PGMOL representative Chris Foy has explained that a possible foul was looked at after Ivan Toney had put the ball in the net following Leandro Trossard’s opening goal, but not an offside claim against Christian Norgaard.
Mikel Arteta fumed after the fixture over the goal not being ruled out, saying that he expected an explanation in the coming days – and he might now have had one.

Retired ref Foy told the Mail on Sunday that Mason decided that there wasn’t a possible foul in the build up to the goal, but missed the offside.
He said: “However, in the build-up to the goal, Christian Norgaard — whose cross it is that Toney heads in — is in an offside position.
“However, the truth is that VAR didn’t fully investigate with the lines.
Had the lines gone down the goal would have been disallowed for offside.”
“I just looked back and it is offside,” Arteta had said.
Should City beat Aston Villa on Sunday and Arsenal on Wednesday, Arteta’s side will no longer have a lead at the top of the table after 22 fixtures of 38.
Arteta said of the performance: “Disappointed because we wanted the three points.”
