Writing in The Players’ Tribune, Bruno Guimaraes has been discussing his move to Newcastle United and what he was told before joining the Magpies.
Guimaraes headed to Newcastle last January, and it’s fair to say that he raised a few eyebrows when he made the move to St James’ Park.
This was one of the best midfielders in the world joining a team in the middle of a relegation battle, it was a shock to say the least, even though Newcastle were the richest team on the planet.

Guimaraes knew what he was getting himself in for though, he says that he was actually told how disastrous this move could’ve been if it went wrong.
“It’s funny, but when I had the opportunity to move to Newcastle last year, I remember a lot of people telling me, ‘You’re crazy.
But any time someone asked me what my dream was, from the time I was 15, I always said it was to play in the Premier League one day.
No, I would be lying to you if I said I would love it this much, and for the fans to have embraced me and my family like this.”4
Guimaraes’ move to Newcastle could have proven to be a disaster.
However, the people who warned Guimaraes about the Magpies couldn’t have been more wrong.
Guimaraes absolutely made the right move when joining Newcastle.
