Former Syrian national captain Ahmed Al-Saleh has been banned for life by the Syrian Football Association after he “kicked, insulted, and spit on” a referee.
After being issued a red card in a top-flight game against Al-Wathba on Friday, the 33-year-old Al-Jaish defender shouted out at the official.
Players from both teams had to restrain Al-Saleh.
The SFA disciplinary committee also penalized Al-Saleh and Al-Jaish, who are unable to appeal the penalties.
According to the SFA, Al-Saleh kept criticizing the referee in the locker room after the game.
