AS Roma continued their dominant H2H record over Fiorentina, registering a ninth victory across the last 11 home meetings against La Viola with a 2-0 win at the Stadio Olimpico.
He was again in the spotlight for a different reason in the 24th minute, when Dodô was shown a second yellow card for a reckless challenge on the Polish midfielder, making Fiorentina’s aim of getting just a third away win of the season significantly more difficult.
With HT on the horizon, Roma made their numerical advantage pay dividends, as Paulo Dybala exquisitely volleyed Tammy Abraham’s perfect lay-off past Pietro Terracciano from the fringes of the penalty area.
On course to enter double-digit victories in the current Serie A (SA) campaign, Roma were inches away from doubling their advantage, only for Terracciano to sublimely divert Zeki Çelik’s goalbound strike onto the post.
Despite seeing their own killer instinct fizzle out in a sometimes-nervy second period, Roma finally took the game away from Fiorentina in the 82nd minute, when Dybala tucked home his second of the evening from Abraham’s pinpoint cross.
Meanwhile, Fiorentina’s struggles at Stadio Olimpico continued, and Vincenzo Italiano’s side subsequently remain without an H2H victory in the Italian capital since April 2018.
