Returns to old clubs are commonplace within the Premier League and can be very hostile depending on the player and the circumstances surrounding their exit.
Ben Chilwell made the most of his return to the King Power on Saturday, starting and getting on the scoresheet himself.
He discussed what it meant to return to a place he once called home following the match.
He stated that it was one of the most enjoyable goals he has scored to date and reiterated that he holds no ill-will toward his previous club and its fans.
‘I think it was probably one of the most enjoyable goals for myself of my career.
It’s no bad blood at all, I really enjoy coming back here and seeing all of the old faces that I used to see all the time day to day.’
He finished by saying that, of course, all previous loyalties go out the window when the whistle blows.
‘But when it’s that 90 minutes on the pitch, of course, I’m going to give everything to win the game for Chelsea, and thankfully today I contributed with a goal.’
Leicester City fans may not be as welcoming towards their former player but it is refreshing to see someone publicly praise a club they once played for.
