Despite the Netherlands international seemingly becoming The Red Devils’ first choice striker, it appears that United may snub the chance to keep Weghorst at the club beyond this summer.
The striker is currently on loan at Old Trafford from Championship leaders Burnley, but United are unlikely to make his stint with the club a permanent one, according to Football Insider.
The Dutchman joined United last month following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo from Old Trafford in November.
Weghorst joined on a six-month loan deal, with United having to pay a reported £2.5 million to buy the player out of his previous loan deal with Turkish side Besiktas.
Since arriving in Manchester, the 30-year-old has scored just one goal in ten appearances for United.
Weghorst initially joined The Clarets from German side Wolfsburg a year ago, but the striker struggled during his time at Turf Moor, scoring just two goals, and was sent out on loan to Turkey last summer.
Despite his impressive scoring record so far this season, Weghorst has so far failed to score in the Premier League for United, with his only goal for the club so far coming in The Red Devils’ 3-0 Carabao Cup semi-final first leg victory over Nottingham Forest last month.
