Manchester City kept the pressure on Premier League (PL) leaders Arsenal by winning a sixth consecutive head-to-head (H2H) against Wolverhampton Wanderers, closing the margin to two points for the time being.
The hosts were being held at bay by a well-organized deep Wolves backline, but with half-time approaching, City’s relentless pressing paid off, as Kevin De Bruyne’s tantalising lofted pass was headed home by Haaland.
As the half came to a close, Nathan Collins and Jack Grealish took center stage, first when the Wolves player seemed to foul Grealish in the area before clearing the former Aston Villa captain’s shot off the line.
Wolves needed a second-half reaction after showing little forward intent in the first half, but their dreams of a comeback were dashed within minutes of the restart.
Haaland went up to score, and his fourth Manchester City hat-trick was complete inside five minutes.
José Sá’s blunder delivered the ball to Riyad Mahrez, who maintained his cool to provide Haaland with a straightforward finish.
The hosts had further chances to extend their lead via Mahrez and Gündoan, but the game had already ended.
