Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has set his sights on 25-year-old Italian international Federico Dimarco as a possible addition to reinforce Los Blancos’ defensive line, according to Spanish media Defensa Central.
Dimarco has become one of the most prominent full-backs in Serie A in recent years. Raised in the Inter Milan youth academy, the Italian player had to wait for his opportunity before establishing himself in the first team. After going through several loan spells, including a stint at FC Sion, he finally rose to prominence during his successful loan spell at Hellas Verona before returning to Inter.
Federico Dimarco, new option for Real Madrid’s left-back
In the current 2023/24 season, Dimarco has made a promising start, registering one goal and three assists in seven appearances to date. His progression has not gone unnoticed, attracting interest from several top clubs during the summer transfer window.
Real Madrid, in particular, could be considering Dimarco as an option to strengthen their left-back in the 2024 summer transfer window. Ferland Mendy faces an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabéu due to physical problems, which has led to club to explore alternatives in that position.
Although the report suggests that Real Madrid will prioritize signing Alphonso Davies as reinforcement at left-back next summer, Carlo Ancelotti is pushing the club to seriously consider Dimarco as a valid option in place of Davies.
However, securing Dimarco’s signature will not be an easy task, as the Italian player has recently expressed his commitment to Inter Milan. Furthermore, the Real Madrid board appears to have prioritized Davies over Dimarco in their transfer plans. Therefore, it will be interesting to closely follow how Real Madrid’s search for a new left-back develops next season.
