Danilho Doekhi’s brace of second-half headers helped Union Berlin triumph 3-1 over Hoffenheim in the capital, extending Die Eisernen’s undefeated record at home to 14 games. Their frantic running and fast passing enthralled the home crowd, but it was Hoffenheim who struck first, when Angelios’ low cross was scuffed wide by 17-year-old midfielder Tom Bischof on his Bundesliga debut.
The Dutch defender didn’t stop there, scored a second goal in very identical circumstances, from another Trimmel corner, to complete Urs Fischer’s team’s comeback and keep their UEFA Champions League hopes alive.
Union were appropriately ecstatic at FT, but Hoffenheim manager André Breitenreiter will be frustrated that his team squandered a winning position, placing them in the bottom half heading into the last full week of January.
