Chelsea, in their constant quest to strengthen their squad, have focused their interest on 28-year-old AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, and according to Calciomercato reports, have been closely monitoring the goalkeeper for a considerable period, expressing now a firm desire to have their services.
This move by Chelsea to look for a new goalkeeper is due in part to the doubts that have arisen around the situation of Robert Sánchez, who currently occupies the starting goalkeeper position on the team. Although Sánchez has proven to be a reliable option between the three sticks, Chelsea seems to be considering other alternatives to reinforce its squad in that key position and take a leap in quality with a view to 2024/2025.
The renovation complicates everything
However, despite Chelsea’s interest, everything indicates that Maignan, who joined AC Milan from Lille in the summer of 2021, and who this time has earned a solid reputation in Serie A, would be very close to signing a new contract with the Rossonero club until 2028, thus frustrating one of the great objectives of the Stamford Bridge team in the transfer market.
