Chelsea, after a disappointing start to the Premier League season, have set their sights on Brighton & Hove Albion winger Simon Adingra as a potential addition in one of the upcoming transfer windows.
With just eight points from six league games, the Blues find themselves struggling at the bottom of the table. However, Mauricio Pochettino recently watched his team achieve a 1-0 victory over Brighton in the EFL Cup and they just defeated Fulham in the Premier League.
Chelsea eyes one of Brighton’s new pearls
Chelsea have three former Brighton players in their ranks, Robert Sánchez, Marc Cucurella, and Moisés Caicedo, as well as Levi Colwill, who was on loan at the Seagulls last season. The relationship between the two clubs has strengthened in recent times, as current Chelsea manager Pochettino used to manage Brighton.
According to Football Insider, Chelsea has begun to take an interest in Simon Adingra’s development in recent weeks. Although his arrival into Brighton’s first team went relatively unnoticed in the summer, following a successful season on loan with Belgian side Union SG, the 21-year-old has proven his worth.
During his time in Belgium, Adingra recorded impressive statistics, with 15 goals and 15 assists, earning him a promotion to Brighton’s first team under the management of Roberto De Zerbi. The Ivory Coast international has since seen game time in the Premier League, contributing one goal and one assist in 239 minutes of action.
Despite having a contract until 2026 with Brighton, Chelsea has been closely monitoring the young winger in his recent games. With fierce competition in the final third of the pitch, Chelsea are looking to strengthen their squad and improve their scoring output, as Pochettino expects greater effectiveness in that regard.
Simon Adingra’s future at the Amex Stadium looks solid, but Chelsea’s interest could mean a new chapter in his career if negotiations progress in the coming transfer windows.
