N’Golo Kante has again become an option to bolster the Barcelona midfield. Intermediaries have recently offered the Blaugrana the chance to sign the Chelsea midfielder. But Martin Zubimendi remains the priority target to replace Sergio Busquets for Xavi Hernandez.
N’Golo Kante has enjoyed a legendary career after spending the initial years of his professional career in obscurity. The 32-year-old had a similar impact at Chelsea, delivering the Premier League title in his first season. But a spate of injuries has troubled the cultured midfielder in the last few years, with his market value falling to €20 million.
But Kante’s stock remains high despite his recent struggles. And reports in March suggested that he would sign a new two-year deal with Chelsea. Barcelona will enter the market in the summer transfer window, looking for a successor to Sergio Busquets.
The veteran midfielder will bring the curtains down on his legendary stint with Barcelona at the end of the season. Several midfielders have thus emerged on Barcelona’s radar, with Xavi Hernandez prioritising the signature of Martin Zubimendi.
But Zubimendi will cost around €60 million, thus leaving Barcelona in a spot of bother. And intermediaries have offered Kante to the Blaugrana. Barcelona will not even have to match Kante’s market value of €20 million, as he will come for free.
And if the Frenchman does not renew his terms with Chelsea, the Catalan giants are in a strong position to sign him. But it will be interesting to see if the cultured midfielder jumps to the top of Barcelona’s wishlist.
