Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has confessed he could be sacked before even getting the chance to make a final decision on his future at the club.
Conte’s contract expires in the summer and, although Spurs have the option to extend that by a further year, there is a mutual acceptance that a parting of ways would be best for everyone involved.
However, after Wednesday’s elimination from the Champions League at the hands of AC Milan, Conte conceded that he might not even make it to the end of the season.
“My contract expires in June.
We will see – they might sack me even before the end of the season, who knows, maybe they are disappointed,” he confessed.
Conte added: “This is not the right day to speak about my future.
At the end of the season we meet and then make a decision.
It’s one year and two months since I started, I always say the same thing, we need time and patience.
I have a contract until June, I’m ready to work at Tottenham.
At the end there will be a decision.
I understand the fans don’t have patience because for a long time Tottenham have not been winning.
What I can promise is my team will work really hard for this club and try to improve.”
Former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino would be interested in a return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium if Conte does leave the club.
