The Americans have instructed investment bankers to explore options which include a complete sale of the club, Sky News has tonight claimed.
Their 17-year tenure at United has been marked by protests from fans unhappy at their running of the club and is likely to be greeted with delight.
Reports first surfaced in October that the Glazers were seeking new investment, although the scale of their ambitions – to completely sell the club – has only just become clear.

Protests have dogged most of their tenure, with fans unhappy at the way the American family have saddled the club with debt following a leveraged buyout in 2005.
